Sculpture exhibition Herbert Mehler & Sonja Edle von Hoeßle in the castle park

Nestled in the castle park of the Schlosshotel Hugenpoet, the Bernd A. Lausberg Gallery from Düsseldorf presents the open-air exhibition Herbert Mehler's "Distance and Harmony" and Sonja Edle von Hoeßle's "Endless Loops".

The Corten steel sculptures of the two German artists decorate the Hugenpoeter castle park, while other works of the gold edition, miniatures and drawings by the artist can be found in the interior of the castle.

The artist, born in Steinau in 1949, enjoys a high reputation both in German-speaking countries and internationally. His towering structures made of Corten steel, created from uniform slats, with their partly geometric, partly organic forms, give the impression of gigantic, plant-based formations of various kinds. Herbert Mehler's works assert their autonomy independently of the surrounding architecture or the public or private space. They are defined by a fascinating relationship of distance and harmony.

Sonja Edle von Hoeßle's sculptures combine material and transparency, idea and body, construction and emotion. Her "endless loops" made of Corten steel are like drawings in space, and thus undermine the traditional identity of sculpture and volume. Space is no longer the other side of the sculpture, but is incorporated into it, becoming a constitutive part. At the same time, the spatial symbols quite naturally open up a space between the viewer and the work, between the work and space, between thought and perception.

The loops develop from the line, swing out, and return to themselves. Infinity and beginninglessness merge into one. The sculptures confidently balance movement and calm, rhythm and form, statics and dynamics, construction and sensitivity.
