There would be dark stories to tell out of the first life of the castle Hugenpoet between the late Middle Ages and the 30 years war; stories of riots, feuds and plundering. Only the name of the builders and first owners the von Nesselrode’s, called Hugenpoet could save itself into our time. The castle was completely destroyed after the 30 years war and rebuild again in 1647 by Johann William of Nesselrode Hugenpoet in its current form. But nevertheless: Over 350 years of history welcomes the guests today!
Nearly 200 years, up to the year 1831, castle Hugenpoet remained in the possession of the family Nesselrode Hugenpoet. Afterwards Baron Friedrich Leopold von Fürstenberg acquired the strongly purged castle, invested and reconditioned and finally shifted his family seat to castle Hugenpoet. Up to the year of 1955 it should remain in the possession of the Fürstenberg family. In their circle the trend-setting idea was developed to transform the castle into a hotel. This idea was enthusiastically accepted by the Düsseldorfer Hotelier Kurt Neumann and put into practice with large a large financial involvement. Thus began the third, the civil life of the castle. After the death of Kurt Neumann the hereditary lease contract was transferred to his son Jürgen. Over the years father and son Neumann transformed castle Hugenpoet to one of the most beautiful castle hotels in Germany with international reputation.
Since the year 1995 the fate of the castle hotel Hugenpoet lies in the hands of Michael and Petra Lübbert. Like the owners before them, they have a very personal relation to „their“ castle. They love it, to conserve a piece of culture history and give the guests the opportunity to experience it as well. However, in order to secure the position of castle Hugenpoet as one of the prominent hotels of Germany on a long-term basis, larger investments were necessary: The room capacity was extended, a new restaurant, the HUGENPÖTTCHEN was built in the former Remise and the premises received an easier, up-to-date ambience. Its own bar for the likewise new opened gourmet restaurant NESSELRODE is presently in planning. And of course modern technology has been introduced into the historical walls, however completely careful and behind the window blinds.
With the membership in the leading Small hotel of the World the castle hotel Hugenpoet has completely arrived in the first league of international hotel trade an honour, but even more a stimulus for the future.
